Missed the desserts, but...

Place: Toby's - The Dessert Asylum
Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Went there for lunch on Saturday with my girlfriend as we bought a Groupon deal which gives us $40 worth of food for $20 value.

We were showed to our seats after they prepared out table (as it was the end of the lunch peak period), and we sat at the end of the shop facing the front entrance of the mall. It was a nice seat, allowing natural light to come in and was perfect for taking photos.

We decided to order the Pork Ribs with Potato Salad [$19.95] and the German Bratwurst Sausage with Garlic Rice [$16.95] (both house specialities) and a drink (Coffee Teaser, $7.95) to share. No long, our dishes came and we tucked in.

Pork Ribs with Potato Salad

I found the ribs to be just nice, similar to the ones at Cafe Cartel but better. I might have looked small, but accompanied with the potato salad it was just nice. The ribs were tender and juicy when I cut into it, with slightly crispy bits at the edges adding some caramelised sweetness to it. The balance of the salty rib sauce and creamy light potato salad made for a good combination.

The bratwurst (below) on the other hand, was not fantastic, as expected for sausage will be sausage. But the sautéed onions complemented the sausage well giving it value. Lastly for the drink, the coffee was not too strong, made milder after adding the syrup to give it more body. Not sure what type of beans they used but the ice-cream went well. Reminds me of the Gelato with Coffee served at Dome just one floor below. Overall the food was not too bad in value as we had a discount for the meal. However I'm not sure if I would have paid for full price for it, but the lunchtime and tea time sets look appetising.

Although this place is recommended for desserts, unfortunately we did not try any desserts. But if the drink is anything to go by, I would assume it is not bad, anyway they offer similar desserts as 'the Big O' and 'NYDC'.
